"Officials of the village of New Lebanon have taken strides to maintain the village's status as a 'Caring and Sharing Community.' Since its charter became effective in 1979, the village has taken a progressive approach to services for the community while maintaining a high quality of life accented by its rural township surroundings. The first property deeds date back to 1805 for the village once known as Medill and Sharpsburg. In 1965, New Lebanon annexed the small community of Johnsville to the west. In 1997, the village opened its new municipal building, which houses the council chamber, mayor's office, municipal manager's office and police station. The former municipal building was a converted farmhouse. New Lebanon's annual Christmas in the Village event is scheduled each December and features craft shows at various buildings and a Christmas program will be held before the annual tree lighting. In the summer, Stagecoach Days Festival is held in June. The event is in recognition of the history that New Lebanon was a stagecoach stop for pioneers heading west for the gold rush."
